This is a round up of Tribune Reporting for those who cant get beyond the paywall. Amazingly, they still have a print edition in 2025!
The Clay County jailhouse continues to be beset by problems. There was a riot due to a food shortage a few years ago. see here. And just last year in Jan, 2024, the jail lost heating for a week. see here.. The problem really dates back to the days of corrupt commissioners Owens and Ridgeway, who underfunded the jail while fleeing the county. The building is old and overcrowded and the county commission continues to plan for a new jail, although in the meantime, the severe overcrowding amidst the recent Clay county crime wave has no doubt led to the sad case of inmates dying, the latest of which is Daniel B. Borkowski, who died on March 29.
Meanwhile, we hope for the safe return of Vonda Ridgeway Kerns who has gone missing. All around, times are bad with the tariffs causing even more inflation and the stress is high as evidenced by the latest road rage incident.
