Liberty's Latest Fashion Statement: A Live Grenade at the Thrift Store

LIBERTY, MO — In a stunning turn of events sure to shake the secondhand fashion scene, Liberty’s Savers thrift store received a blast from the past—literally—when a World War II-style grenade casually rolled in with someone’s gently used blouses and slightly haunted porcelain dolls.

Around 5:30 p.m. on June 17, Liberty Police responded to the most explosive donation since someone dropped off a VHS copy of Howard the Duck. Employees reportedly discovered the grenade while sorting through a box of patriotic Americana, old mugs, and what may have once been a chia pet.

The grenade was, helpfully, missing its pin—presumably because whoever donated it didn’t want to be wasteful—and while it didn’t explode, the mere sight of it was enough to spark a full evacuation and prompt the Kansas City Bomb Squad to swing by for a little Tuesday excitement.

“We determined it was a ‘dud,’” said Captain Matt Kellogg, likely with the same tone one uses after watching a bad Netflix original. “Still, we decided not to test our luck with a live demo in the parking lot.”

KCPD’s elite bomb disposal team scooped up the historical artifact and disposed of it properly, ensuring it wouldn't make its way into the 50%-off bin next to the lava lamps and tube TVs.

No one was harmed in the ordeal, and authorities believe the grenade was not intended as a threat—just a bold new approach to downsizing grandpa’s questionable collectibles.

Savers has since returned to business as usual, now offering deep discounts on sweaters, shoes, and mildly terrifying household items. Management is reportedly revising its donation policy to clarify that while vintage is welcomed, explosive vintage is discouraged.

“We ask all donors to please double-check your boxes,” said one employee. “If it goes boom, maybe just keep it at home.”
