Chiefs Flags Sell Out Across Northland as Fans Line Up Before Sunrise

Kansas City, MO
— Chiefs Kingdom fever is in full swing, and it’s showing in the Northland, where retail outlets sold out of coveted team flags in a matter of hours Friday morning.

At the McDonald’s just west of Barry Road and North Oak, the rush began well before sunrise.
“7:10 this morning – sold out at McDonalds just west of Barry & NO,” said Charmie  of Park Ridge. “They told me the line was insane at 5:30 this morning and as mentioned some people were buying dozens of them. I agree there should be some limit set to the number you can purchase.”

Others reported similar scenes. At the McDonald’s on 291 Highway in Liberty, demand overwhelmed supply.
“We were at the McDonald's on 291 in Liberty and they said they sold out by 10am,” said Harry of Glenaire.

Grocery stores also saw the crush. Hy-Vee locations limited sales to ensure more fans got a chance at the prized banners.
“It was announced a few weeks ago that online was sold out. Every year they are mostly gone by 7,” said Marinella of Woodbrooke. “At 6:15 HyVee still had some but limited sales to 4. Started selling at 6.”

With online orders also snapped up weeks in advance, many fans turned to pre-dawn lines at fast food chains and grocery stores in hopes of snagging the annual tradition.

For Robison, the frenzy pushed her to change tactics.
“I ordered online. Figured it would just be easier!” she said.

The early morning sellouts have left some fans frustrated, especially as reports surfaced of buyers walking away with dozens at a time. Many are calling for stricter purchase limits in future promotions to give everyone in Chiefs Kingdom a fair shot. Another way to get a free Chiefs flag is to Become a member of UnionStation.
